FAQ
Q: What are the the technical provisions for Dance Shed?
A: Dance Shed is a low tech informal showing. We provide a simple sound system with someone to run sound (CD or media player) as well as very basic (think industrial, like from Bunnings) lighting.
Q: Can students show work?
A: Dance Shed seeks to serve artists who usually do not have the opportunity to show and receive feedback. It is assumed that most students have this provision. However, students will be accepted on a case by case basis if there are slots available.
Q: Can I show in more than one Dance Shed showing?
A: Choreographers who have not shown work take precedence over those who have done so in a previous Dance Shed.
Q: Does my work have to be finished?
A: No, Dance Shed encourages artists to show works in progress. You can also show completed work that you are interested in re-investigating.
Q: What if I just want to show? Do I have to participate in the feedback process?
A: Dance Shed is about feedback, response and dialogue. If you are really uncomfortable with the idea of getting public feedback, talk to the coordinator and the facilitator. You may be able to receive in another format such as one-on-one or written.
Q: If I am showing work, can I invite friends who are not "fellow dancers"?
A: Definitely, invite whoever you would like to see your work and give you feedback regardless of their background.
Q: Does Dance Shed cost anything?
A: Dance Shed is currently free for choreographers and audience thanks to support from Ausdance in the cover of space hire fees.
Q: Is Dance Shed curated?
A: Dance Shed is completely open and first come, first served.
Q: Does Dance Shed welcome different dance styles?
A: Dance Shed seeks primarily to serve the Sydney independent dance sector which is diverse and often in hybrid forms. We encourage works in any style from choreographers and physical theatre devisors who create work with a clear conceptual rationale.
